This is a list of 24 standard stars that are used for determining the extinction coefficients and absolute flux calibrations for observations made with the HB Narrowband Comet Filters. They are distributed in a band around the equator, with stars at approximately one to two hour intervals in right ascension, so that a star at approximately any airmass will be available at any given time during the night. In general, there are two levels of star brightness, with the brighter tier (4.5< V <6.5) suitable for photometry, and the fainter tier (6.5< V <8.5) more suitable for CCD observations. Early B-type stars were preferred because they have few spectral lines and a strong UV flux, however a few late-type B and O stars are also included to fill in gaps in the right ascension coverage. For more information about the standard stars, the HB Narrowband Comet Filters in general, see Farnham et al., (2000) "The HB Narrowband Comet Filters: Standard Stars and Calibrations", Icarus vol. 147, pp 180-204, 2000.
This catalog and the above description were obtained from Tony Farnham, Lowell Observatory.
